Spring 2010

Spring came early this year to the Northland. Ice was out on our two lakes around April 2-3. According to the Duluth News Tribune, this is the earliest spring in more than a century and the warmest spring in 132 years, the longest above-freezing streak in March, the first March without any measurable snow, the fastest ice-out dates on record and the warmest start to April in Duluth history.

Burning restrictions have been posted by the DNR as we are way below normal for precipitation. Please watch for DNR limits on outdoor burning and be very careful.

Road construction in Duluth starts in May

For those of you who come to the lake on 35W, note that there is going to be substantial road construction on the freeway in Duluth. Starting in early May, I-35 in Duluth will be ripped up and reduced to one lane in each direction for a massive reconstruction project. The project will last into 2012.

One alternative route is to take Midway Road to Martin Road to Rice Lake Road and then north to catch #44 (Normana at that point). The downside of this alternative is that MnDot is routing trucks on Midway to #53 into Duluth.
